Why Are Somalis Afraid of Dogs?
<p>When I was four years old I had my first encounter with a dog. It was my neighbours black Labrador and it managed to get into a children’s park I was playing in and I immediately started running, and you know what happens when you start running in the presence of a dog? the dog starts to chase you. I ran in circles and could hear the dog panting loudly behind me and as I was flinging my arms back and forth with such vigour, the dog managed to lick my hand which made me scream and run faster. I don’t remember if the owner stopped it, I just remember climbing a wall and joining the rest of the Somali kids who knew better.</p>
