How to Budget for a Semester Abroad in Barcelona

I thought to myself, how the hell am I supposed to afford blowing through 2,100 dollars at the “minimum” per month?

I try to be as financially independent as I can, therefore I worked last summer as well as through the first semester of my Junior year to prepare for study abroad. However, even with the past cash-flows, there was no way I was going to be able to afford such an expensive per-month price tag!

For six months in Barcelona, I was supposed to have, at minimum, 12,600 dollars? There HAD to be another way…

I decided to do some research and figure out how to slim down this budget. Prior to arrival, I decided to break down my weekly and monthly expenses.

Let’s think…I have both fixed and variable expenses. Fixed= something that is of a consistent value that is pre-planned ahead of time. Think of an apartment expense, a gym membership, or a prescription cost. My fixed expenses were: my apartment and my gym membership.
