14 Things I’ll Miss About Israel

On one of my last nights in Tel Aviv, my cousin and I went to dinner and he asked me what I will miss about Israel. It’s a difficult question to answer. This is a place I have visited 14 times — giving a whole new meaning to the term “second home.” In fact, one of my favorite memories is celebrating Israel’s 50th anniversary in Jerusalem with my family. It happened to coincide with my 5th birthday and the city came to life: music and decorations filled the streets and I felt like a mini Golda Meir.

At the age of 23, I have seen this country from many angles. In addition to the weddings, bar-mitzvahs, and youth programs, I have had the privilege of touring with Holocaust survivors and volunteering as an EMT in Jerusalem. Most recently, I got a sneak peek of the future while working as an analyst at a Tel Aviv investment boutique this year. In truth, each visit feels like a first because the country advances so quickly.
