A is for Aardvark

There’s the little guy. Did you know aardvarks are related to the elephant?

I’m a maths teacher. I’m not a writer. And I’m not an artist. And yet here I am writing on medium and there I am again drawing on Instagram.

You can see him on Instagram here.

Teaching is probably my calling. Much as I hate to admit it. I’m pretty decent at it now, I know what I’m doing for the most part. Getting kids to make progress makes sense to me. I know the craft and I can manipulate it to suit ages and abilities, backgrounds and neurodiversities.

Teaching gives me purpose in my work. But it’s not what lights me up.

I’ve always had loads of interests and the occasional fad. I’ve loved drawing since forever. Writing is new to me and is slowly becoming my outlet. I enjoy dabbling in tarot. I could read fantasy novels all day everyday. Gardening is pretty relaxing. Disney + Harry Potter is life. Not to mention my love for my family, dogs and all.

But drawing has always been there. Like a little itch I need to occasionally scratch. But like that annoying itch, the more you scratch, the more you need to scratch. The next thing you know is you’re up against a wall like Baloo the Bear, getting in all those hard to reach places.

Learn More
