Even our prehistoric ancestors knew that to commit the perfect murder, you must get rid of the body.
Fortunately, nature does a pretty good job of making a body disappear. Bacteria in the air begin to break down the body’s cells twelve hours after death. As tissue decays, a green mix of methane and hydrogen sulfide ooze out and create a pretty bad stench. You probably wouldn’t appreciate the smell, but maggots do. They start scooping up the green goo like licking icing off a cake.
In seven days, maggots will have eaten 60% of a human body, unless….wild animals have not spotted the corpse first and taken a few bites. Most bodies are reduced to skeletons within forty years.
