The Liberties neighbourhood of Dublin City was the site of a disastrous incident that would go down in history on the fateful day of June 18, 1875. 13 people lost their lives when a storehouse in the centre of this busy neighbourhood caught fire of biblical proportions. This strange tragedy took a darker turn when the very thing that was supposed to provide the citizens with warmth and cheer turned out to be a deadly elixir, resulting in the deaths of 13 people from alcohol poisoning.
