Isuppose it could be my own version of a mid-life crisis. Instead of buying fast cars, I’m buying clothes. But then, anyone who knows me well understands that I’ve always had a closet full of unusual things: a Sherlock-Holmes-style great-coat; wide-sleeved jackets and shirts from the Japanese brand Sou-Sou; a collection of quirky hats (not a baseball cap among them); a black pirate-style shirt with a lace-up neck. That sort of thing.
Until recently, I was careful to pair these with simpler clothes. I told myself I had a subtle-but-quirky sense of style. I wanted to look interesting but not stand out too much.
