Regardless, the fact is that the motivating factor for Trump’s reemergence as a candidate is revenge. He has made it clear to his MAGA base in no uncertain, undiluted terms that he is their answer to retribution and has promised to “completely annihilate” the deep state. No one should be surprised that if he faces any level of pushback or political dissent, he would quickly employ the Insurrection Act, command military forces, and dispatch such units to American cities. Just as alarming is the fact that he would likely have significant support from pluralities of Republican voters and politicians — some out of blind loyalty and opportunism and others out of a trilogy of franticness, fear, and a frustrated sense of futility. To be a Republican politician and voter at the moment is to live in a state of impervious political limitations surrounded by Orwellian factions.
