Why Do We Still Need Black History Month?

Being Black is a very interesting “thing”. It is a distinguishing characteristic that people first see about you, and that you cannot hide. As a result it leaves you open to being pre-judged, or subjected to the prejudice of others. This pre-judgement opens up the world of Black people to trauma. I am reminded of a quote from Gabor Mate, ‘Trauma is not what happens to you…it is what happens inside you as a result of what happened to you”.

In my opinion one of the greatest failings of humanity as a species is our inability to understand things from the perspective of another. Interestingly, I have never had a problem in this regard.
