Derrick was a nature-loving third-grader with brown hair who excelled at mushroom picking and enjoyed joining the family on hunting trips to search for black-tailed deer, bobcat, and black bear. He also loved sports such as baseball, basketball, soccer, and football, and even took a few swings with a golf club. The only time he would be indoors was at nightfall, when he preferred to watch animal shows on television.
The only things that scared Derrick were the dark and cougars. However, as the snow started to fall, he disappeared, and the family’s joyous tradition turned into a tragedy that left the community in shock. Despite extensive searches, no trace of Derrick was found, and his disappearance remains a mystery to this day.
