Ho Chi Minh City is the largest metropolis of Vietnam. It lies in the south of the country near the Mekong Delta. It used to be called Saigon, but today it is named after the communist dictator Ho Chi Minh, who enforced his regime at the beginning of the second half of the twentieth century through harsh violent repression that resulted in the deaths of millions of innocent civilians. Today, Ho Chi Minh City is more of a modern metropolis with a diverse economic, cultural and industrial life. Ho Chi Minh City has a tropical climate that brings with it a heavy rainy season from May to October. The standard of living of the population is gradually rising, but there is still room for improvement. Saigon offers various tourist attractions and it is one of the most important transport crossing in southern Vietnam. Tan Son Nhat Airport offers flights to various interesting sites in Vietnam. Saigon Railway Station is the main train station and you can travel by train via central Vietnam to Hanoi.
