Zelda TotK Speedrunners show off How to Beat a 50+ Hour Game in Less than an Hour

The new Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK) is a massive game. It takes what was already a massive world in Zelda: Breath of the Wild (BOTW) and expands on it greatly. Although both games share a similar game map, TotK occurs at a different point in the game world’s timeline, with several years since the first game now having passed.

Players can easily spend well over 100–200 hours exploring, adventuring, fighting, crafting, building, and cooking in this familiar but new world. The building and crafting systems of TotK have been greatly expanded since the last game. The new system which allows almost any of the game’s items to be joined with another item, offers players a near infinite amount of possibilities. Something which has resulted in a great deal of experimentation, creativity, and Wile E. Coyote styled antics and inventions. Players are constantly coming up with new vehicles, tools, weapons, and even flying machines.

The amount of development and testing that would have been required to make so many systems and possibilities work together so seamlessly is just mind-blowing. The game’s physics engine is one that other game studios will likely try to replicate in hopes of being able to provide future players with possible avenues to build their own sets of toys and tools. By doing this the players are also given agency and a feeling of empowerment to carve their own paths in the world by coming up with creative solutions for many of the challenges and puzzles which the world presents.
