XFactor Ventures takes big bets on the enablers of the bioeconomy boom in the US

The early two-thousands brought us the biofuel boom (and bust). The mid-teens to early twenties brought 3D tissue development of organs — to synthetic biology to make everything from food to materials. As two female founders in the novel biology space, we know something about the investment boom (and subsequent) capital retraction over the last four years in the biomanufacturing sector. The music has all but stopped for companies promising to deliver products without robust cost: output techno economics or paths to scale, and the industry is recognizing a desperately needed precursor to support new products: foundational technologies optimizing all aspects of scale. This new foundation for Biorevolution 3.0 is needed to unlock the transition across massive industries (nutrition, bio-based products, performance ingredients) towards a sustainable future from a planetary and economic standpoint with brave, determined, and focused founders building it.
