My First Post on Medium and Why I Switched from WordPress

<p>I thought for so long that I had to be a successful writer in order to call myself a writer. As if I would be ashamed to tell people that I blogged, dabbled or tried for something, only for them to realize that I am an insignificant speck of dust whom no one has even stepped on.</p> <p>I&rsquo;ve been writing sporadically now for the last year, especially as I approached the big Three O and panicked that I had not yet achieved anything of note. I threw myself into unfinished challenge after challenge. I followed Julia Cameron&rsquo;s program,&nbsp;<em>The Artist&rsquo;s Way</em>, and thought that it would transform me into a great writer instantaneously. I backpacked around for months with Elizabeth Gilbert&rsquo;s&nbsp;<em>Big Magic</em>, hoping it would provide inspiration from the top pocket of my backpack.
