My Life-Long Dance With Alcohol Began as an Innocent, Wide-Eyed Child
<p>My sister Michele, our friend Debbie and I were playing hide and seek with the neighborhood boys. We were around 11 to 13.</p>
<p>The three of us girls were hiding in the bushes in Debbie's front yard. It was a warm New Jersey summer evening with dusk beginning to descend.</p>
<p>Out of nowhere, we heard an eerie singsong voice "DeeDee, DeeDee, DeeDee." I was a little freaked out, Michele laughed, and Debbie turned scarlet. Her eyes showed fear, recognizing that the voice belonged to her mother. Debbie’s nickname was Dee Dee.</p>
