Why I Go to Therapy

Although I did a lot of psychotherapy in my younger years, wrapping around ill relations with my father and mother, I currently have a therapist I’ve been seeing for the past 16 years — since my separation from my husband in 2007.

I didn’t turn to her for the kinds of things I did past therapists. I was already utilizing mindfulness and meditative type awarenesses for unspiraling psychological baggage.

I originally found this woman (C) for my youngest child, who was going through challenges when my husband and I separated. In the end, it didn’t work for him to be with her.

However, I wanted support. She seemed like the perfect person. Ironically and coincidentally, she was steeped in mindfulness as well. Non-attachment to thought and acceptance were at the heart of her approach.

Right up my alley.

Although I’m sure she’s excellent at other psychotherapeutics, whatever the approach, those are no longer my angle.
