Who are you?

Who are you during the ‘gap years’ of life?

During my entrance-exam course, I had a pretty close friend who said to me:

‘If I stop studying, I am no one, nothing. I am not a doctor, I am not a lawyer, I am not good at anything.’

I had a second to respond, and without thinking, words left my mouth

‘I am someone, everyone’s someone.’

After that, I couldn’t stop thinking about what she said and about what I said. Did I really believe that?

She was merely citing professions, but in today’s world that seems to be everything. But much beyond the future major or college that I graduate in, I’ll be someone in the in-betweens. That’s what life is truly about. You’re not your major, you’re not the Ivy or non-Ivy college you attended, you are not your GPA; you are what you choose to do with that.
