What’s the Difference Between Research and Data Science?
<p>When I first ventured out of academic labs and into the software world, I encountered my first data scientist out in the wild, and to say the least: I was confused. They may as well been an alien.</p>

<p>I spent the better half of my professional life in academic labs at some really great schools. From undergrad, to PhD, to post-doc, to government research, I was basically a full blown research scientist. If you had cut me, I’d bleed the scientific method.</p>
<p>And then, well, pretty much over night I hopped the fence and became a co-founder of what eventually became a VC funded software company in <a href="https://www.synccomputing.com/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">the cloud data space</a>. Through that experience, I had to grow up quickly and learn all about the modern world. I hate to admit it, but academia is really behind the times. I felt like Robin Williams in Jumanji</p>
