<p>Anyone with a passing knowledge of GRRM’s Ice and Fire Universe knows that genetics are a key plot mechanic. The first book/<em>Game of Thrones</em> series kicks off with the mystery of why King Robert Baratheon’s three children with Queen Cersei Lannister have her yellow blond hair, when every other bastard his Hand can find has his own black hair (“The seed is strong!”). The answer, of course, is that none of them are Robert’s children, which kicks off a succession crisis when the dying king has no legitimate heirs.</p>
<p>So when Rhaenyra Targaryen, heir apparent to her father King Viserys I and the perfect silver-haired Valyrian princess, produced three dark-haired children with her equally silver-haired husband Laenor Velaryon^, people on this side of the screen lost their minds. How could this happen?!? But once the shock died down, the question became “No, <strong>genetically</strong>, how could this actually happen?”</p>
