Was the 2023 Chicago Marathon Truly Amazing?
<p>Nearly a year ago, I was in Berlin when Eliud Kipchoge broke the world record, but as an amateur, it was also an amazing race experience as I described in <a href="https://medium.com/runners-life/was-the-2022-berlin-marathon-really-amazing-db5c48390c88" rel="noopener">this article</a>.</p>
<p>I think Chicago has topped that, but not just because of Kiptum’s incredible 2h00'35" run. Below is what I think made this edition really special.</p>

<h2><strong>Ideal conditions</strong></h2>
<p>As boring as talking about the weather might be, it’s probably the external factor that makes the biggest difference to marathon racing. Great weather can make the wait at the start more pleasant but heat above about 7°C / 45°F<strong> </strong>has been proven to <a href="https://marathonhandbook.com/best-temperature-for-running/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">negatively impact performances</a>. Simply based on experience, if there was a choice, I would always take cooler rather than warmer.</p>
