<p>Arkley, like most of the famous Melbourne artists in the 80&rsquo;s and 90&rsquo;s, lived and practiced on Chapel Street, South Yarra, down to St Kilda, in the trashy studio apartments now sold for more than Arkley&rsquo;s most famous works. This was old-world art Melbourne, where the uber wealthy now live. During the boom of the 90&rsquo;s the artists, writers and poets moved further north &mdash; first to Collingwood to follow the drugs, then further still to North Fitzroy for cheaper rent after the boom gentrified the area and the drugs went out of fashion. They now reside in Brunswick flowing up across the Merry Creek to Northcote &mdash; areas synonymous with sexual liberality and cheap beer.
