Urban Transformation Trend in Istanbul
<p>Over the past two decades, Istanbul has undergone a period of neoliberalism characterized by the commodification of the city through various means. One notable article that delves into the neo-liberalization of Istanbul is authored by Kuyucu, which provides a comprehensive overview of several legal amendments pertaining to urban structure. Kuyucu identifies four key reforms that have facilitated the establishment of a fully formalized and commercialized urban regime.</p>
<p>Firstly, the 2005 New Municipality Law brought about a transformation in the gecekondu policy, granting municipalities the authority to execute redevelopment projects in “derelict” and “obsolescent” areas within the protection zones.
