A Short Guide To Boston Trail Running

Home to the world’s oldest annual marathon, Boston is a city of runners. Rain or shine you can catch them passing through the Common, jogging along the Charles River and sprinting up Beacon Hill. But there’s more to beantown running than pavement and cobblestones.

The Middlesex Fells Reservation (known colloquially as “the Fells”) is a vast multi-trail park just north of the city. Despite its name it bears little resemblance to actual fells (“a hill or stretch of high moorland”) like those found in Scotland. Instead the Fells encompasses 2,200 acres of woodland around a number of active and inactive reservoirs.
