A Reparations Explanation for Angry White People
<p>We are entering a new age. People who were once tolerant of America’s hypocrisies have grown weary along with the rest of us. America has always been a nation of paradoxes. We memorialize “great” men for declaring independence, while they, themselves, owned slaves. Our country’s favorite claim is that all citizens are qualified, yet but more than half of our country’s wealth is held by just ten percent of the people. Patriots claim we inherited the rich legacies of founders and builders, philosophers and inventors, farmers and businessmen, while laughing at the notion that Black slave and white master may also have some unresolved residue. We know “we” owe over 33 trillion dollars to nameless entities, and we also know not a dime of America’s wealth is reserved for descendants of those she has harmed the most.</p>
