Tisha B’Av: The Exile of the Shekhinah — the Living Divine Presence

<p>On the ninth of the Hebrew month of Av, we mourn the destruction of both the Temples in Jerusalem and the exile of the Jewish people from their land. This day of mourning expresses itself on several different levels.</p> <p>On one level, it is a day to remember a national tragedy, the loss of our land and sovereignty. It is a day when we recall the great suffering that the Jewish people underwent at the time of the Temples&rsquo; destruction and throughout two thousand years of exile.</p> <p>On another level, Tisha B&rsquo;Av is about the relationship between God and the Jewish people. On Mount Sinai we made a covenant with God. The events that took place on Tisha B&rsquo;Av were the direct result of our breaking of that covenant. Now we have returned to our land. What is the nature of our covenant with God today?
