Are You Sick and Tired of Waiting?

I am tired of waiting. But waiting is what I do best.

The Morning Wait

I wait for the alarm clock to go off in the morning so I can get out of bed.

If I wake up before the chime jars me out of my dream world, I don’t leave my bed. I don’t dare. I wait until the device says it’s time, because I don’t trust my body clock, it could be off, so I just wait.

The Shopping Wait

I wait for the shampoo I ordered from a discount beauty supply shop in Kentucky to be delivered. I tracked the package. The receipt said, “3–5 business days.”

I am not sure whether Saturday was a business day, or if they count Labor Day as one too. I thought business never stops in the world of internet shopping delivery. I see a van roll down my street every single day. Yet I waited two weeks for the shampoo to arrive.

It was the price I had to pay for getting the item at a steep 30% discount. I’m not sure the wait was worth it. I ran out of shampoo at the end of the first week, used my husband’s, and my hair hasn’t recovered since.

The Sailing Wait

Two days ago we waited for the wind to come up so we could sail home from Catalina Island. We waited an hour, then two, and then three. It took four hours for the wind to visit our little sails off the coast of Los Angeles.

And when the wind finally arrived, we had to wait again, because a giant container ship filled with plastic things from China was on a collision course with us.

Website
