The song depicts Cohen&rsquo;s platonic relationship with Suzanne Verdal, a prominent muse of the beat era. The song&rsquo;s lyrics describe a rendez-vous in which Cohen goes to visit Verdal at her apartment by the Saint Laurence river. There, Suzanne would serve Cohen tea and oranges before the two would head off on a walk through the Old Port towards the Church of Notre-Dame de Bon-Secours.
