Theraputthabhaya — The Monk Who Became a Warrior

I am kind of a nerd, so I always prefer to stay at the office. In the evening, after the daily chores, our staff members like to exercise and often try to get me involved. However, I am reluctant to move my lazy body.

One day, our safety officer, a retiree from Air Force, asked me to join them for the exercise, and I said, “Perhaps tomorrow.” Then he mentioned that I should come with them if I wanted to visit an impressive temple. Still, I wasn’t convinced because many impressive temples are nearby.

Not ready to accept defeat, our safety officer mentioned that he wanted to keep it as a surprise, but I should consider visiting the temple since it’s where Monk Theraputthabhaya stayed.

Without knowing the story, you won’t grasp the impact, but for me, it was like screaming, “What… No Way.”

Perhaps I should share with you this background story first.

If you remember, I recently published a story about the deadliest demonic deities in our culture, Mahasona. During the story, I briefly discussed a giant chief warrior, Gotaimbara, who served under the Great King Dutugamunu. It’s important to remind you of his incredible strength before moving into the story.
