Ad Gefrin OR Theme Parks for Adult Children

Northumberland’s latest Disney World is a theme park for adult children who can’t go abroad for their holidays as they used to. New/old sites of ‘historical interest’ spring up like mushrooms up and down the UK. The latest one I’ve visited is called Ad Gefrin, and it combines everything a tourist needs: schools-level history, a mini-museum, a brewery, and a café. It also creates employment for local people. Very laudable. Others I know of, though not visited, include Kynren which is a word meaning kinfolk, a multi-sensory experience of British history (or is it Anglo-Saxon history) which out-does Disney in the middle of County Durham. At any rate, it takes the standard, as taught in schools, approach with a bit of myth thrown in. Who knows the difference, to paraphrase Martin Leidtke! (1)
