Tenerife Street Art Map

If you’ve not yet heard of it, Tenerife is a magical little (actually, kind of big) Island — one of seven making up the Canary Islands — in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the coast of Morocco. It boasts temperate weather all year round, super friendly people, beaches, beaches, beaches and the street art in Tenerife stands up strong against any major cities across the world.

In fact, in the opinion of Tom Strong, Tenerife local and Founder of Tenerife Street Art, it is exactly the fact that there are no big cities, that makes the art on this Island so special:

There are no big cities. A lot of the ruins are in the fields, visible from the highway. A German artist Eberhard Bosslet used to live in Tenerife. In the 80s and 90s, he was painting these ruins. I’m not sure if he had an influence on other artists, but as far as I know, he was an early artist in the movement.

The 6 or 7 quality street artists in Tenerife were doing their thing along with the taggers, but the first street art festival was in 2013 when a small town called El Tablero turned a protest about a highway through their town into a festival. After 2013, the towns in Tenerife started giving some financial support. Some of those 7 street artists have decided to do the street art festival lifestyle.
