Structural Symphony: Unraveling the Art of Lewis Structures in Organic Chemistry

<p>If you have completed the first semester of general chemistry, then you learned about Lewis structures. The purpose of this tutorial is to review Lewis structures and explain how they are used in organic chemistry.</p> <p>In 1916,&nbsp;<a href="https://sciencehistory.org/education/scientific-biographies/gilbert-newton-lewis/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Gilbert N. Lewis&nbsp;</a>introduced the concept of atoms sharing a pair of electrons to form chemical bonds. An extension of this work by&nbsp;<a href="https://www.aps.org/publications/apsnews/200304/history.cfm#:~:text=Langmuir%20proposed%20that%20these%20octets,forming%20a%20firmly%20held%20monolayer." rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Irving Langmuir</a>&nbsp;led to the concept of the covalent bond.
