Stopping Time in Japan by the Way of Paris

One of my favorite neighborhoods in Paris was Montmartre. Hilly, with the gorgeous Sacre Coeur glowing like a marble heart atop the hill and side streets crawling with boutique shops and restaurants, it was a neighborhood with a world-famous view. It was also the perfect setting to get lost in for a while immediately after surgery. My parents helped me move into a minuscule one-bedroom apartment with creaky floors from a friend of a friend. My mom shook her head while stirring rice porridge in the tiny Parisian kitchen with its ancient red-and-white-tiled floor. The living room was decorated with cozy artbooks and large wax candles bunched together in the fireplace. Plus, the bed was comfortable. I loved it.
