<p>In 1967 the American artist <a href="http://www.oldenburgvanbruggen.com/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Claes Oldenburg</a> (1929–2022) made a drawing proposing a new monument to replace the Statue of Liberty. It was part of a series of drawings of fantastical sculptures Oldenburg was working on in the late 1960s called ‘Proposed Colossal Monuments’.</p>
