Should Political Parties In The UK Be State Funded?

Party funding is the method a political party uses to raise money to spend on campaign and other political activity. Political parties in the UK today have various methods of funding, some examples: membership fees, donations and grants. Which they utilise in order to fund party activities like media advertising. Recently party funding has become an issue in UK politics, as parties have seen a decline in membership and subscription fees. The Conservatives for example, have seen a decrease in membership going from 200,000 members in March of 2021, down to 172,000 in 2022. Therefore, I will being arguing why parties should instead be state funded instead, while acknowledging the possible benefits of such a system.
