On Stalinist Chic
<p>Having never been to Berlin before, nor anywhere else in continental Europe for that matter, I did not know what to expect. Least of all, I would have never expected Germany’s capital to look like home.</p>
<p>But as I took a taxi to our hotel and watched the landscape change, there was something familiar, even nostalgic about the layout and the buildings. They look the same as some buildings in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan and my hometown.</p>
