Why are square numbers so odd?

In fact if we look clearly at the diagram, we notice that whenever we want to make a bigger square, we will add the same odd number (colored in blue or green) to the previous square with the 2 little squares in the corner (colored in red), which means we add a consecutive odd number to the previous square.

ALGEBRAIC PROOF:

If geometry is not convincing enough, we can look more into the algebraic proof. One of the best ways to start with the problem is to see that the square numbers are made up of 1², 2², 3², etc.
