Women whose husbands are approaching retirement age develop mental and even physical health issues as a result of stress. It’s not the possible reduction in income that’s causing the anxiety, it’s the prospect of more togetherness.</p>
<p>While this condition — anecdotal though it may be — is mostly associated with Japan’s Baby Boomer generation, which exalted a family arrangement of breadwinner husband and adoring homemaker wife, one does not have to be in that role to view the retiring husband with similar trepidation.</p>
