Taiwan, the Switzerland of southeast Asia

I was once told by a friend who lived in Asia that Taiwan is the Switzerland of Southeast Asia, a green and peaceful country amidst the frenetic megalopolises of neighbouring countries. His words, half registered and stored at the back of my mind, resurfaced during a one-day stopover in Taipei, capital of Taiwan. He was right, it felt like Switzerland.
