Walking through Portugal in the middle of South London

I didn’t find anything in South Lambeth that could make it a spot for tourists. It lacks the big crowds found a few tube stations away and it exudes the quiet air of the residential British streets. It’s also working hours on a week day, which could explain the calmness in the streets.

But as I venture down the road that leads to Stockwell, a couple of blocks stand out to my eyes. Not that they look that different from any other store façade in any other place in London. However, it’s the predominance of red and green, the ‘not so English’ names that makes them different. Well, different to a English eye. For me, it’s the strangeness of seeing the brands I was so used to back in Portugal. When I traded my home country for the UK around a month ago, I wasn’t expecting to find ‘Delta’ coffee or ‘Sagres’ beer in the middle of London.
