Sony’s DualSense Edge Controller is Totally Fine, I Guess?

Back in March, when I stumbled upon some in-stock DualSense Edge controllers in my local stupid Best Buy store, I was elated enough that I bought one on the spot. Now, five months later — I often reach for my regular DualSense controllers instead.

This is both because of my personal lack of excitement over Sony’s competent pro controller, and also because the fit and form of the original DualSense is just so good.

I think this is a totally fine take on the super expensive pro controller concept, but not at all essential — even for the most die-hard Sony fans. And I think that Sony had a more interesting take on one of its key features years ago, in the forgotten PS4 “Back Button Attachment.” Looking at the larger market around this type of controller, Microsoft’s Elite Xbox controller offers a bit more raw value at a lower price— though obviously you can’t use that on Sony’s PS5 consoles.
