Sole Searching in Slovenia: A Journey of Blistering, Blustering Beauty
<p><em>I recognize that my posts about the wonders of international travel are coming at a time of great discord in the world. While what’s happening is horrendous, my commitment — and writing — continues in the spirit of envisioning that we can all “become better” through fostering connections across cultures, geography, and even time.</em></p>
<p>When the twenty-something daughter of good friends told us about her epic trip <a href="https://www.nationalgeographic.com/travel/article/juliana-trail-guide-slovenia" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">hiking the Julian Alps</a> in Slovenia, my fifty-something self became intrigued. Could I tackle even a portion of the Julian Alps and live to tell an equally enthusiastic story about it? With some middle-aged modifications, the answer is <em>Yes</em>! But even though we’d aim to make it easier, that didn’t mean it was easy.</p>
