A Perfect Day in Copenhagen, the Socialist Utopia Gone Right

My perfect day in CPH starts in Vesterbro, my favorite neighborhood in the city. Formerly a blue-collar neighborhood, it’s known for its hipsters, dive bars, and murals, so I feel right at home, thinking of the Mission District in San Francisco, my second home I left behind.

The main drag, Istegade is grungy and chic in turns: Central Station where Istegade begins crawls with junkies and hookers. Early in the morning, that area is fogged with old cigarette smoke and the clouded eyes of unseeing street-walkers. The Danes are modestly boastful about this last bastion of filth in their practical little city, and the fact that they invented the concept of modern porn as we know it.
