Smart assessment of Chinese Students’ speaking skills. How do we prepare them, and do we prepare ourselves?
<p>Standardizing how we use assessment in education and increasingly incorporating automated, software-based methods is nothing new. We have been doing so in various ways for at least two decades. With artificial intelligence (AI) becoming more and more advanced and better at “understanding,” there will be no slowing down in the efforts to continue on this path. The time has come for the speaking skills of Chinese middle school students to be automatically graded. As teachers, it has always been our job to prepare our students for their tests, but how do we prepare them for “talking” to a machine so that their grades reflect their true speaking skills?</p>
