Jake says, “Your mom,” in response to most of my questions, like “Where is the remote?” He says it with a slight smile, perennially unable to hold a straight face. And when he reads this, he’ll crack a joke about his “straight face.”
In early 2021, Jake recognized the dissonance of being assigned female from birth with his identity as a male. By summer, Jake knew and understood his gender identity and what it had always been.
