On 11 June, 1963, a Buddhist monk Thích Qu???ng ?????c came out of a car with 2 other monks and sat on a busy Saigon street intersection.
One of the 2 monks set a cushion for Thích Qu???ng ?????c and the other poured a 5 liter gasoline over him. Inspectators, passersby, and a few media men were gathered in a circle, not believing what they were seeing.
Thích Qu???ng ?????c assumes a meditative lotus position and reciting buddha verses on his wooden prayer beads, ignites a matchstick and burns himself to death.
The black smoke emanating from his body and the putrid smell covers the surrounding area.
