Dealing with Stigma and “The Second Wound” as a Survivor
<p>It was the article that garnered the most attention. Well, the most attention for my small platform, which I use to focus on injustices that have happened in this world. Not all of that attention was positive. The day after my birthday, I received a comment breathtaking in its lack of compassion, from someone I haven’t spoken to in around 6 or 7 years. Immediately upon reading it, I started shaking. It ruined my birthday plans that evening. I was going to see a play, alone, but was so upset I just went home and cried.</p>
<p>I wanted to bring attention to her response, to name her. Not to shame her, but to highlight the projection and further harm many of us go through with others, when we speak up about these things. She wanted to “set the record straight” so here I am, doing the same.</p>
