What Altman Didn’t Say in Melbourne (or: what he left for us to answer ourselves)

<p>On Friday the 16th June 2023, Melbourne was graced with the presence of the imitable yet surprisingly grounded Sam Altman. I was lucky enough to attend this &lsquo;fireside&rsquo; chat along with a fellow 2000 supporters, hackers and fanboi&rsquo;s (me!) of Altman&rsquo;s universe-released-as-product &mdash; ChatGPT by OpenAI at the Melbourne Convention Centre hosted by The Startup Network.</p> <p>The 90 minutes or so filled the room with insights, laughter, intellectual curiosity, some moments of friction with a consistent and strong sense of Altman&rsquo;s diplomatic deftness throughout. This last point was the most curious and teachable experience from the afternoon spent with one of the most powerful men in the globe. Altman&rsquo;s status was comfortably forgettable. Not due to lack of charisma, intellect or command in the room, but because of it.
