Russia in Check, Mate in Three

The tables seem to have turned in the nightly game of airstrikes. For the last month, Ukraine has been striking military targets deep within Russia, in Moscow, and at many airbases and military production facilities. Ukraine struck Pskov airport and possibly the Cheryokhino military base (home of the 104th VDV regiment), Kremniy El microelectronics factory in Bryansk, an oil reservoir in Kaluga, and undetermined targets in Moscow, Oryol, and Ryazan. These are all cities in western Russia. In Crimea, Ukraine struck the naval base at Sevastopol. Russian media is also reporting a strike in Enerhodar, occupied territories.

In contrast, the Russians launched forty-four drones and missiles on targets within Ukraine — of twenty-four directed at Kyiv, only one found its mark and killed two elderly civilians. Nine out of twenty directed at Odessa found targets — including grain storage facilities and a kindergarten. The rest were intercepted by air defenses, 96% of those directed at Kyiv, and 55% in Odesa were intercepted. There are conflicting reports right now, as it is still early in the morning, but some sources report the interception of 28/28 cruise missiles and 15/16 Shahid drones. Meanwhile, there are reports of damage in Ukraine from other sources.

Learn More
