«The Running Man Nebula» — NGC 1977

This time we know under what circumstances the nebula received this name. Texas amateur astronomer Jason Ware once called his neighbor, who lived on the floor below, to observe and showed him this nebula through his amateur telescope. A neighbor noticed that it looked like a running man, which Jason told at the next meeting of the astronomy club as a joke that, “here, I showed the man the sky through a telescope, and he just dreamed it!” But everyone really liked it, and after a couple of weeks the entire astronomical Texas called this nebula “The Running Man Nebula”, and now the whole World calls it that. Fortunately, the nebula is accessible for observation all over the world, because it is located in the equatorial part of the sky.

Website
