From the River to the Sea… This Land Is Your Land

I was disappointed. My father was an intellectual, a law professor about to become the president of the university. He was also a fascist, a supporter of the Franco dictatorship. Perhaps I was expecting a lecture about the moral superiority of Spain as “unity of destiny in the universal”, like we were told in school. I could feel that he was upset with me as well. What did he expect? He was the one responsible for me being born in Italy, not in Spain. He was the one who sent me to preschool early so that I could learn Italian before we moved back to Spain.
