From the River to the Sea… This Land Is Your Land

<p>I was disappointed. My father was an intellectual, a law professor about to become the president of the university. He was also a fascist, a supporter of the Franco dictatorship. Perhaps I was expecting a lecture about the moral superiority of Spain as &ldquo;unity of destiny in the universal&rdquo;, like we were told in school.</p> <p>I could feel that he was upset with me as well.</p> <p>What did he expect? He was the one responsible for me being born in Italy, not in Spain. He was the one who sent me to preschool early so that I could learn Italian before we moved back to Spain.
